SSC stands for Staff Selection Commission. It is an Indian organization and is connected to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). The DoPT comprises a Chairman, two Members and a Secretary cum Controller of Examinations. The SSC conducts exams in order to recruit members in to various posts in the diverse branches and ministries of the Government of India and its collateral offices. Query No. 1: Categories for which SSC conducts recruitment exams and the required qualifications?
Answers: The SSC coordinates open exams regularly for ranks with maximum openings. They are as follows:
For Graduate level

  • Assistants
  • Auditors/Jr. Accountants/Upper Division Clerk
  • Divisional Accountants
  • Inspectors of Income Tax/ Central Excise
  • Sub-Inspectors in Central Police Organizations(CRPF, BSF, ITBP and SSB) and the CBI
  • Section Officer(Commercial) and Section Officer(Audit)

For Higher Secondary (10+2) Level:

  • Stenographer Grade ‘C’
  • Stenographer Grade ‘D’
  • Lower Division Clerks
  • Data Entry Operators

For Secondary (10th) Level: Multi Tasking staffs

Posts like Statistical Assistant, Store Keeper, Jr./Sr. Computers, Information Assistant are known as Selection Posts. Aspiring applicants are invited through mediums of public notices after which direct interviews are held with eligible candidates.

Query No. 2: Description of the design of examination conducted by SSC.
Answer: The organization conducts Combined Examinations (Graduate level & Matric level) yearly for vacancies on look outs for Graduates ad High School passed candidates. Examination comprises various stages and initiates with the prelims from where the qualifiers move on to the Mains. Candidates appearing the Mains are required to sit for interview. Candidates clearing the Matric Level Main Exam need to undergo a Skill test in the form of typing or stenography. In case of Section Officer, Investigators recruitment exams vary and the applicants are not required to undergo prelims.

Query No. 3: Age restrictions and relaxations for the SSC conducted exams?
Answer: Age limit differs from post to post and are circulated within the examination notice published in the Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar. Customarily, 18 to 27 years is the age limit. Relaxation of 5 years in the upper limit is granted for the SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC and 10 years for physically disadvantaged applicants. The maximum age for widows, divorced women and judicially separated women is 35 years and for UR category. The SC/ST women get a concession till 40 years and OBC women till 38 years. The Ex- Servicemen and Departmental candidates are to consult The Notice of the Exam about age relief.

Query No. 4. : Candidates exonerated from paying examination fee.
Answer: Applicants belonging to SC/ST, physically handicapped and Ex-servicemen quota can appear for the exam free of cost.

Query No.5: Steps to undertake in case Admission Certificate is undelivered.
Answer: Incase the candidate has not received the Admission Certificate in time, the person need to click on the Notice Board option of the website for further steps to be undertaken as well as to receive a copy of the original certificate.

Query No.6: Allotment of examination centers and venues.
Answer: Candidates are generally allotted their preferred centre of examination. The venues are assigned according to the ticket number developed by the computer automatically on random number basis. If a centre showcases excess candidates then the applicants except female and physically challenged are relocated to a centre in vicinity.

Query No.7: Overlapping of Interview/ PET examination dates with that of other exams.
Answer: The dates once fixed are not altered. In case the interview/PET are held at a particular venue for more than one day, the appeal is taken under consideration provided that the applicant inform ten days prior to interview /PET with substantial documents.

Query No.8: Absence of category from the result list alongside the name and roll no.
Answer: Candidates undergoing this inconvenience are to inform the matter in earnest to the SSC who will asses and re-announce the result in the actual category.

Query No.9: Duration of time required to appoint a candidate after announcement of final results.
Answer: The documentation and study of successful candidates continues for 30-40 days after which they are assigned to the respective Departments/ Ministries where they are allocated. After the completion of all formalities offer for appointment are handed out to the candidate within a span of some months.
